Asthma Education information you MUST consider before marriage... if both of you are asthmatic We're not suggesting anyone go to school to become an asthma educator or even test for an educator certification. At issue is the real possibility of any future children having asthma with both parents being asthmatic.
Love can be a very strong feeling that can survive any difficulty that comes to a relationship. Think carefully though when it comes to deciding if children are right for you if both you and your intended spouse have asthma. This isn't a suggestion that mates be selected with an eye towards genetic purity, rather a recognition that when 2 people with asthma have children the likelihood of tier offspring also having asthma is greater. Is it love if two people knowingly bring a child into the world who goes through life in physical and psychological trauma because of asthma? There are many stresses and strains on a marriage without the challenges of dealing with asthmatic children. If this refers to you I advise you to explore this asthma education before going ahead with your marriage. As you already know, asthmatic children, like you, can radically change the dynamic of a family. Hereditary factors seem to play an important role in who gets asthma One of the major causes of asthma is hereditary factors. In many cases, asthma is passed from a parent to the child. So, if both of you have asthma, it is most likely that one of you will pass it over to your children. This is not compulsory, but the chances of it happening are very high. There are materials available that outline the theories and thoughts about how someone gets asthma. One of the ideas that is still under serious consideration based on the asthma education materials available today is that children actually are born with it. The heredity idea continues to be a viable idea that has not been disproved. It has however been confirmed by experts that a person who has a parent with asthma is three to six times far more likely to develop asthma during his life time than a person who doesn't have a parent with asthma. If this statement is true, then it is true also that if both parents have asthma, the chance of the child having asthma goes up dramatically. You don't need an asthma educator or a pile of research materials to understand that the odds are significantly increased if someone with asthma marries another with the same disorder. Statistically speaking, 40% of children who have asthmatic parents will eventually grow up and develop asthma! So, am I saying couples who have asthma should not get married? Not necessarily. What I advocate instead is for couples who have asthma and want to get married to do a lot of planning before going ahead with the marriage. In other words, they should get all the asthma education needed to see them through. They should have a complete understanding of what could be the result of their getting married and be prepared to handle it. There is no point regretting later in life when you start having children who all have asthma. It is best to know what to expect and be prepared to handle it. Talk to your doctor and get his or her advice and be prepared on the things to do to make the condition favorable if you eventually give birth to children with asthma. This is necessary because early detection of asthma can help protect your baby's life than if you were not aware of it at all. If couples with asthma know what to expect, they would be better prepared to deal with it than if they were ignorant. So, before getting married as asthmatic victims, be very clear on what to expect regarding asthmatic children. Then ask yourselves if and how you can handle it, when it does occur. More so, you should know and identify what sets your asthma off, so as to prevent same for your asthmatic children. Diagnosis of asthma is not difficult when the patient is older. Very young children however can be tricky to diagnose. A visit to a diagnostician with a list of symptoms can help determine an asthmatic condition. Here's 12 questions that may help you decide if the possibility of asthma might be evident in the symptoms experienced. This asthma education and planning will help you make better decisions and can save your children from dying from asthma.
