An Asthmatic Cough can be Controlled. Coughing is very common in people with asthma. This is especially true of kids that continually try to keep their bronchial passageways clear and have a tendency to really be animated with their coughing in the hope that adults notice.
There are 2 basic causes of an asthma cough The first is a chronic cough that seems to continue for weeks or months. This is a long term type of cough and has been called the more common "smokers cough" and not one necessarily associated with asthmatics. A chronic cough is usually caused by environmental factors and there are few, if any, additional symptoms that would indicate a bronchial infection of problem. The cure for chronic coughing is to find the source of the irritation and remove it from your life. A visit to the medical doctor would also be wise considering that a constant cough can be symptomatic of something more serious. In addition, coughing that becomes increasingly more violet can be risky. Violent coughing can lead to pulled or damaged muscles in your chest that make coughing even more painful. The other type of asthmatic cough is known as acute. Acute bronchitis can cause an asthma type cough. This is because the person is trying to clear their bronchial passageways from mucous and phlegm. When an infection occurs from an illness such as influenza, the bronchial tubes tend to constrict or become smaller. Then, to fight off the disease, a persons body sends anti bodies to fight. Long story is that mucous is developed in the breathing tubes and causes even more difficulty in getting enough air. The body will try to clean those passageways, hence...the asthmatic cough! This type of coughing is usually associated with a low grade fever and other flu like symptoms. I personally wait 3 days to see if an illness is getting better before I take my kids to the doctor unless there's a violent cough that can't be controlled with home remedies such as hot tea with lemon. It's important to know and understand asthma signs and symptoms. The difference between a simple cough and a serious one is not that difficult to learn. Again, the asthma cough needs to be brought under control to limit the possibility of damage to the underlying muscles of the chest making coughing even more difficult. So if you cannot get the cough under control, see the doctor as soon as possible.
