But have you bothered to know what you can do to deal with the menace of dust mites?

Dust mites are those terrible (mostly unseen) insects that live in your bedding, your pillows, your mattresses, your blankets, your upholstery and other bedding items in your home.

If you think they are just there for the fun of it, think again. They are there at your detriment and the detriment of your family, especially your children.

The fact that they live off of dead skin cells means one bad news for you. It means they produce an allergen from their excrement.

Think that is all? Far from it. Their excrement is then inhaled unknowingly- by yourself and your loved ones, especially your children. Treatment for asthma is usually a combination of medications and changes in the asthmatic lifestyle.

It is a fact that you can't rid your home completely of these terrible dust mites, but you can reduce their numbers as much as you possibly can. In other words, try everything you can to reduce or eliminate them in large numbers.

Below are some ways to do this-

- Be better informed of asthma effect from dust mites and how to reduce them.

- Get chemicals that kill dust mites and use these chemicals on your beddings, carpets and upholstery. These chemicals are proven killers for dust mites. Ensure you use them consistently to kill dust mites.

- When washing your bedding, do so in very hot water. Hot water of 60 degrees C and 130 degree F is proven to kill dust mites.

- Keep the humidity of your home to be less than 50%. Dust mites find it hard to strive in such homes with humidity of less than 50%.

Doing the above and more will help to deal with asthma effect and reduce the existence of dust mites in your home... and thereby treat or prevent the prevalence or occurrence of asthma in your loved ones, especially your children.
