My answer is a big YES. Indeed, smoking can give you asthma, so need to stay as far away from cigarette smoke as possible.

Well, the big YES isn't as more of a bold "yes" than a big one. See, smoking causes problems in your lungs and respiratory system, that much we know. Now if you're bronchial tubes are already small or constricted anyhow for whatever reason, then smoking CAN cause the onset of asthma. There is a link between chonic bronchitis and smoking however.

Can the act of smoking cause you to get asthma however, I would have to say no. Still, if you have asthma symtoms already, why take the chance. Even if you only have a single asthma symptom like shortness of breath, stay away from smoking and smokers whenever possible.

If you have family members and friends who always love to smoke wherever and whenever, it is time to politely tell them to stop smoking in your presence. This is especially true if you have had allergies or asthma yourself and now have your own toddlers.

Although we don't know for certain if asthma is caused by heredity, why take the chance that asthma symptoms will develop in toddlers in your home because people continue to smoke.

We do know that for many asthma sufferers, cigarette smoke is a known trigger. If causes the linings to constrict and cause an asthmatic episode, all because of cigarette smoke.

Smoke is one of the worst asthma irritants that can make the asthmatic condition far worse than it ordinarily would be. This is true especially for young children, babies who may not yet have completely developed lung capacity and children.

So, make sure that you and your loved ones who suffer from asthma stay away from smokers and smoking in general and you will keep asthma under control to a large extent.

So use common sense when deciding if smoking is needed in your life. It can cause untold problems for not only you but also your children. Personally, it's just not worth it. Add the combination of daily stress and asthma and it's just another thing to worry about.
