I know how much worse it can be for your boy being stuck at home for many days instead of being at school with his or her school mates... because of an asthmatic attack.

But this doesn't have to be the case all the time. You can't continue to allow asthma have the upper hand in the life of your boy child. Normality, or as close as you can reasonably come to it is the best childhood you could offer your child.

You can fight and win the war against asthma for your boy and keep him in school with other school students instead of at home.

Below are simple steps to achieve this-

- Start protecting your other children from asthma before they are born- With asthma, the keyword is - Prevention is better than cure. Before your children are born you should start protecting them from cigarette smoke, fumes, gas and other environmental pollution. This is the period when they are most vulnerable, so do all you can to protect them.

Talk to your doctor about more ways to prevent your unborn children from asthma and other related illnesses. This can prevent you from having another asthma boy.

- Keep your asthmatic child away from the things that can trigger asthma- It is much wiser to spend a great deal of time preventing asthma from occurring in the first place than battle on how to cure it when it does occur.

But if your boy child has already been diagnosed with asthma, you should talk to your doctor on the best way of further protecting him from attacks.

- Talk to your doctor to have an asthma action plan for your asthma boy child- This is a kind of written plan of action that will be prepared by your doctor. It contains all that you need to do for your child to prevent future attacks of asthma.
If followed entirely, it is very capable of keeping asthma at bay for your child for as long as possible.

Asthma and Respiratory Definitions & Terms:

  • Leukotrienes -- Natural substance produced by certain cells within the body as part of the inflammatory reaction to an irritant (asthma trigger.) In asthmatics, leukotrienes and their receptors cause the muscles in the airways to tighten and mucus to be produced. This mucus can block the smaller airways, which can result in coughing, wheezing, and breathing problems.

  • Nasal passage -- Air enters the body through either the open mouth or the nose. Tiny hairs in the nose trap unwanted particles while a sticky liquid called mucus catches many of the germs before they all can go too far into the respiratory system. The mucus also warms and moistens the air.

  • Saline Wash, Nasal -- The use of an over-the-counter saline spray to flush mucus out of the sinus cavities, helping to prevent sinus infections and relieve symptoms. Here's how to do it.
