Child Asthma can be Life Threatening There are several types of asthma that can affect ones life and child asthma is not considered a type. Chronic and acute asthma are the two most common types of respiratory conditions. Not all people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) have asthma. While many may exhibit certain asthmatic symptoms similar to chronic bronchitis or even emphysema, most asthmatics do not have COPD. This chronic condition is usually found in groups located in areas of high pollution and in smoking adults but smoking is just one cause of the disease.
The acute asthma is much more common in children and can be very dangerous. The underlying pathology or reasons for child asthma is usually quite different than someone older who develops the illness. While the basic cause of asthma is inflammation of the respiratory tissues, the root cause or reason for the problem is different. In older people, the symptoms of this illness can be caused by smoking or other direct environmental causes. In young children however who develop asthma, it becomes less clear as to the actual cause and most medical professionals are left with treating the symptoms. There are few unique markers or indicators of asthma especially in a young child as there are so many other potential causes of the most typical symptoms. These typical symptoms include wheezing, which can be caused by viral infections among other things, coughing, chest congestion and tightness along with a shortness of breath. As these symptoms may be indicators of many other illnesses along with an asthmatic respiratory illness, it makes getting an accurate diagnosis by a trained medical professional even more critical Asthma is a serious illness due to it's ability to impact the removal of carbon dioxide from the body. Once the bronchial tubes constrict, less air can be forced into the airways. This in turn can lead to mucus build up making full air breathing even more difficult. As the lungs are unable to completely eliminate carbon dioxide from the body, it builds up in the lungs leaving even less room for oxygen to get into the body. The result is that child asthma can be deadly if allowed to continue from this point. This is especially serious with Baby Asthma. Little ones that are unable to talk are the toughest to diagnose but in the most need. The good news is that there are medications and environmental things a parent can do to protect their child from the affects of the devastating disease. Many kids with child asthma live almost normal lives with a few modifications of their lifestyle along with precautionary preparation of emergency medications for the eventful attack that might occur.
