As parents, it seems that many of us simply aren't aware what conditions and diseases are ontagious. Take respiratory diseases and conditions such as asthma or allergies, aren't contagious but have a lot of symptoms of bronchitis. Someone suffering from these common respiratory ailments are not capable of transmitting the illness by bodily contact to another.
If you have more than one child, the thought of passing on illness is always in the back of your mind when one of your children becomes ill. Going to the pediatrician is also not an option everytime someone gets sick, so you worry about not only the sick child but the other children in the house. This assumes however that we're talking about asthma or environmental allergies. Other respiratoy illnesses such as bronchitis, can be contagious depending on if it's viral or bacterial related. The good news is that allergies and asthma aren't contagious. These respiratory illnesses that can affect breathing and respiratory tubes cannot be passed from one person to another. Childhood asthma is a chronic condition but is not a danger to others. It is possible however, that certain sensitivity or allergies can run in a family. This appears to be more of a heredity or environmental issue rather than contracting the illness through contact. It may very well be possible but due to the proximity or closeness of certain environmental factors such as respiratory irritants etc. families and even whole neighborhoods can exhibit common symptoms. A good example of this is a higher rate of children's allergies and asthma in cities with higher pollution levels. We also know that an asthmatic childs condition, and all asthma is caused by a compromised respiratory system. While many people may appear very healthy, the reality is that heredity may play a role in the development of asthma and allergies not only in children but also later in life as adults. Depending on the severity of the pulmonary difficulties experienced, asthma disease management is more an effort to control the environmental asthmatic triggers than simply going to the medical doctor.
