2. Treat the symptoms of the asthma like acid reflux with asthma treatments

3. Make the body more tolerant to the causes of asthma.

Get rid of the cause of asthma-

This is in line with the popular saying "to solve a problem, look at the cause and deal with it... the problem will be solved". This statement is true of asthma. But with asthma, you may not be able to get rid of it completely, since it can't be cured. You can only treat it and keep it from giving you problems. Acute asthma is part of your system not operating correctly.

Occupational asthma caused by exposure to chemicals or secondary smoke, etc. can help lower the rate of asthmatic attacks but will in no way cure the disease by staying away from these triggers

Any claimed natural cure or treatment that states they can cure this illness is at best inaccurate and at worst being less than honest.

Treat the symptoms of the asthma-
For example, if the cause of asthma is occupational, a change of jobs can prevent the

After treating the causes of asthma, the second basic method is to look at the various symptoms and treat them. For example, if one of your symptoms is difficulty in breathing, treat it and others. Eventually you will notice that you have treated most, if not all, of the symptoms.

Make the body more tolerant to the causes of asthma-

This last asthma treatment guideline helps the body to be more resistant to the causes of asthma and helps you to live healthier and longer.

Many natural options can help simply because they use common sense like removing asthma triggers from your home to help lower the number of attacks. There's also using humidifiers and other such products that increase the moisture in the air.

In the end, caution should be the goal when dealing with natural asthma treatments if only because they're not a substitute for a solid treatment plan developed with your doctor. Asthma is not something to be taken lightly.

There's also the benefit of staying in contact with those that are developing new and emerging treatment options. Options like Bronchial Thermoplasty May Be the Future of Asthma Treatment and you would never know anything about it if you don't take the time to stay up on the latest information concerning asthma.

Asthma and Respiratory Definitions & Terms:

  • Pleural fluid -- The fluid inside the membranes lining the lungs and chest cavity.

  • Epinephrine -- Epinephrine is a naturally occurring hormone, also called adrenaline. It is one of two chemicals (the other is norepinephrine) released by the adrenal gland. Epinephrine increases the speed and force of heartbeats and, thereby, the work that can be done by the heart. It dilates the airways to improve breathing and narrows blood vessels in the skin and intestine so that an increased flow of blood reaches the muscles and allows them to cope with the demands of exercise. Epinephrine has been produced synthetically as a drug since 1900. It remains the drug of choice for treatment of anaphylaxis.

  • Sweat (Chloride) Test -- Common test for Cystic Fibrosis, whose symptoms can be very similar to asthma. When a child begins to present asthma symptoms a sweat test is typically done to rule out CF as a cause. The child's forearm or shin is electrically stimulated to produce perspiration, which is then measured for salt (chloride) content using a special digital machine. Too much salt in the sweat indicates CF. A borderline reading will usually result in retesting. It is not painful and usually takes about an hour or less from start to finish. Sometimes two locations are tested (left and right forearms) for quality control. For more information on sweat testing, visit www.cff.org.
